Why Use Copy & Paste
|
"Copy & Paste" is a shortcut way of duplicating text on the computer screen.
When you are asked to enter your email address, you usually just type in your address.
With our website, however, you don't give away your personal email address anymore;
you give away an emailias instead (an alias to your personal email address).
So, instead of typing the new emailias, it will be much more convenient for you
to use "Copy & Paste". Here's how....
|
|
|
|
Three Easy Steps to Copy & Paste
|
There are three easy steps to do the "Copy & Paste" skill:
- Select the emailias for copying.
- Copy the emailias from its original text box.
- Paste the emailias into the text box that is asking for your email address.
|
|
|
|
1. Select
|
The box below is a practice area for this "Copy & Paste" skill. The
top part is just like you will find in our pop-up window when you create
a new emailias. The bottom part has a text box like the ones on websites that
ask for your email address.
Left-click on the "Select" button. That's it for Step 1.
We simplified the first step by giving you a button to click so that
the emailias is quickly & easily selected. (Look below the practice area for next step instructions.)

2. Copy
|
The "Copy" step tells the computer to remember the selected emailias so that it
can be "pasted" later. We recommend the "Control-C Keyboard Sequence" to do
the "Copy":
Copy: Control-C Keyboard Sequence
- Make sure that the emailias is selected.
- Press & hold the "Control" key on your keyboard (don't let go yet).
- Then press and release the "C" key.
- Then release the "Control" key.
Note that depending on your computer, you may need to use the "Alt" key instead of the "Control" key.
|
|
|
|
3. Paste
|
The "Paste" step tells the computer to put the emailias that it remembered in
the "Copy" step into the specified text box. The "Control-V Keyboard Sequence" is just like
the one for the "Copy" step, but you use the "V" key:
Paste: Control-V Keyboard Sequence
- Left-click with your mouse on the text box where you want to put the emailias.
- Press & hold the "Control" key on your keyboard (don't let go yet).
- Then press and release the "V" key (right next to the "C" key).
- Then release the "Control" key.
As with the "Copy" command, you may need to use the "Alt" key instead of the "Control" key.

Other Ways to Copy & Paste
|
|
|
There are two other popular ways to do the Copy & Paste steps:
- Menu Commands
- Drag & Drop
|
|
|
|
Menu Commands
|
The Menu Commands for Copy & Paste are usually done via a pop-up menu or a toolbar on the
browser:
Copy Menu Command
- Make sure that the emailias is selected.
- Display the menu with the "Copy" command on it. One of two ways:
- Toolbar: Left-click on the "Edit" menu on the toolbar.
- or Pop-up Menu: Right-click on the emailias text box to display the pop-up menu.
(Depending on your computer, you may need to right-click outside of the emailias text box.)
- Select the "Copy" menu item on the menu.
Paste Menu Command
- Left-click with your mouse on the text box where you want to put the emailias.
- Display the menu with the "Paste" command on it. One of two ways:
- Toolbar: Left-click on the "Paste" menu on the toolbar.
- Pop-up Menu: Right-click on the emailias text box to display the pop-up menu.
()
- Select the "Copy" menu item on the menu.
Note that some browser windows won't have a toolbar or a "Paste" command in the
menu. In these cases, you should use the "Control-V Keyboard Sequence" to paste your emailias.

|
Drag & Drop
|
Some computers allow the very convenient "Drag & Drop" method to do the Copy & Paste.
Here's how it's done:
Drag & Drop Steps
- Make sure that the emailias is selected.
- Left-click and hold the left button on the selected emailias text (don't let go of the button yet).
- Without letting go of the mouse button, move the mouse so that it is over the text box where you want to put the emailias.
- Release the mouse button.
The emailias should now appear in the destination text field. Remember, however, that some computers
don't support "Drag & Drop", so you may need to use the "Keyboard Sequence" or "Menu Commands" to
do Copy & Paste.
