All About "Folders"

What is a Folder?
|
The use of Folders in Emailias.com has several benefits. They are
useful to organize emailiases so help you find them easier, to
manipulate several emailiases at one time a group, and to help
organize the email that each emailias re-routes.
Firstly, by default there are three folders in everybody's account:
-
My Emailiases: By default, all (non-Friend) emailiases that you create will
be stored in this folder (you can change the default, if you like). In
Advanced mode, you can create sub-folders within the My Emailiases folder
to help you organize your emailiases. You may not delete, rename, or move this folder.
-
Friend: This special folder contains all of the Friend Emailiases
that you have created. Since Friend Emailiases are one-time-use, they may
not stay in this folder for very long (since they're deleted after 1 email).
You cannot put any other emailiases in the Friend folder, and it may not
be deleted, renamed, or moved, nor can sub-folders be created in it.
-
Disabled: This special folder contains a list of emailiases that are
currently "disabled". This folder doesn't really "contain" the emailiases
as other folders do. Rather, it lists all disabled emailiases regardless of
which folder where they are contained in. Therefore, an emailias could be
contained in the "My Emailiases" folder, but if it is "disabled, it will
also be listed in this Disabled folder. This folder cannot be
deleted, renamed, or moved, nor can sub-folders be created in it.
Emailias.com helps effectively manage your email and can be a much more
valuable tool than simply controlling junk email. Using folders is
necessary to benefit from these powerful capabilities. A folder is
an easy way to organize emailiases into meaningful groups or categories.
In this way different types of communications
(such as those related to work, shopping, personal newsletters, etc.)
may be handled in different ways and controlled as a group.
Experienced computer users know that to effectively store, organize and
subsequently find files it is important to place the files into a
meaningful file hierarchy separated into folders. Although a new computer
user may keep all of his/her files in the top directory (like "My Documents")
it is not long
before this single folder becomes unmanageable. Just as it is smart to
use folders to organize files it is also convenient to use folders to
organize Emailiases. Although folders may not be necessary at first they
quickly becomes very important as the volume grows. We encourage our
members to start using folders from the start.

How should folders be used?
|
Folders should be used to organize your emailiases. This is helpful for:
-
Searching for an emailias. Similar emailiases can be grouped together.
For example, you can keep "Shopping" emailiases separate from your "Newsletter"
emailiases.
-
Changing many emailiases at one time. To manage many emailiases
(i.e. enable/disable or change the linked target), folders make it convenient
to operate on many emailiases at once. You may decide to disable all "Websaver Flight"
emails for a few weeks while you're on vacation in the tropics.
-
Organizing email that is forwarded by emailiases. The folder's name
can be automatically inserted into the subject line of every email that is
re-routed by an emailias. Therefore, rules & filters of your mail reader
can be used to automatically file your email into appropriate folders. So, if
you happen to create a new emailias in your "E-Coupons" folder, then the rule
that handles E-Coupons in your email account will automatically file new email
for you.
Emailiases can be stored in any level of sub-folder. So, if your current folders
do not seem appropriate, you can store the emailias in the My Emailiases folder until
you decide where it would fit better.

How do I create & manage folders?
|
You must be in "advanced mode user mode" which you can verify by
looking at the top right hand side of the screen. If you are in
"Basic User Mode" then just click on "Switch to Advanced".
Folders may be created, renamed or deleted from the folder
properties page on the Emailias web site. Emailiases may be organized
or placed into folders at the time of creation from the browser
pop-up window or afterwards in bulk from the Emailias web site.
To create a new folder:
-
Select "Folders" from the top menu tab.
-
Select the "New Folder" on the left menu.
-
Enter the "New Folder Name" which will identify the name of the folder.
-
Select a "Parent Folder", which is the folder within which your new folder
will be placed. "Newsletter" may be the "parent folder" for "financial"
(Financial, Current Events, etc. would all have Newsletter as the parent).
"My Emailiases" is the default top-level selection. Folders cannot be
created in the special "Disabled" or "Friend" folders.

Can I move a folder to another folder?
|
Yes, you can move a folder into another folder. You can create any level of
nested folders, and move the folders from one to another (except for the special
"Disabled", "Friend", and "My Emailiases" folders mentioned above).
When you move a folder to be in a sub-folder, all of the emailiases in the
folder automatically move with it.

|
Can I move all emailiases in a folder to another folder?
|
|
Yes. When viewing the folder properties you can select "Move Emailiases" from
the left hand menu. A list of all of your folders will be displayed and you can
select the destination folder. After confirming your choice, all of your emailiases
in the original folder will be moved to the newly selected folder. Note that
this moves the emailiases from within one folder to another but does not move the
folder itself.
